Dear Parent/Guardian,
We are quickly approaching the quarter mark for the school year. The past eight weeks have gone by quickly, with a lot of things happening at the high school. This is a great time for the school and the families to communicate how the school year is going and where we need to put our efforts in the coming weeks. We continue to focus on attendance, graduation rates, and promoting college/career opportunities for our students.
Currently our attendance rates continue to improve, but every effort goes a long way. We ask that parents help us minimize any student absences. Our goal is for every student to miss less than 10 days in a school year. We believe this is similar to many career fields. The state’s goal to prevent chronic absenteeism is 18 days or less. This would allow a student an average of two days per month. If a student has missed 4 or more days this school year, they are on-track to be chronically absent. This can result in lower levels of success and repeating courses. We hope we can work together to minimize this impact.
On October 16th, we finished our PSAT/SAT testing. This is something that we provide our students free of charge. It is our goal to give each student access to college entrance and scholarship requirements. Every student at Monroe High School has the opportunity to take these tests. We use the results to help guide our instruction as well as give the students another opportunity to meet their graduation requirements. The students did a great job!
Lastly, our annual Parent/Teacher Conferences are set for November 7th and 8th. We take a team approach at these meetings. Many of our parents choose to meet with all of their child’s teachers at the same time. We find this to be most effective by having all stakeholders in the same room. Most meetings take less than 20 minutes. We would like to have students present at the meetings, if possible, but it is not required. If you would like to meet with one or more of your child’s teachers, this can be arranged by phone or email with the front office with Angela Lynn or Kerri Hicks. The schedule is 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 7th and 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on Friday, November 8th . We hope to see you there.
Please feel free to contact me, or the high school office, by phone or email at any time.
Sincerely,
Beau Sisneros
