COVID-19 Closure Update: March 30, 2020

March 30, 2020

Dear Monroe School District Students and Families,

Thank you for your continued patience and understanding as we work to support our students during this extended school closure.  At this time, we know our students and families are being impacted by the closure and it is our purpose to help them through this difficult and unprecedented event.  We met as a staff today and are beginning the implementation of our supplemental education plan for both schools.  At the K-5 level, teachers are reaching out to families today and preparing learning packets to be picked up or sent home on Monday, April 6th.  The middle school and high school teachers are reaching out to students and families today to assess their ability to access online content and supplemental lessons.  We are planning to begin online lessons for students grades 6-12 on Wednesday, April 1st.  We have Chromebooks available for families to check out if they need to on Tuesday, March 31st, at the following times/places:

Grade 6 — 10:00 to 11:00 (Grade School Office)

Grade 7 — 11:00 to 12:00 (Grade School Office)

Grade 8 — 12:00 to 1:00 (Grade School Office)

Grade 9 — 9:00 to 10:00 (High School Commons)

Grade 10 — 11:00 to 12:00 (High School Commons)

Grade 11 — 1:00 to 2:00 (High School Commons)

Grade 12 — 2:00 to 3:00 (High School Commons)

All times are open for all students, if necessary.  Contact your building principal if other arrangements need to be made.

At this time, our goal is to provide supplemental education for all students.  We are waiting for ODE guidance later this week on granting credit for online work completed at the high school level (only). We are also waiting on an ODE decision regarding high school seniors and graduation requirements.  All state testing and Essential Skills requirements for graduation this year have been suspended.  We will contact students and families with more graduation information as soon as we have it available.

We have expanded our free meal program to include breakfast and lunch beginning this week.  Both meals can be picked up at one time between 9:00 am and 11:00 am every week day at the grade school campus.

Again, thank you for your patience as we all travel through this time.  Our school offices will be available on a limited basis and please don’t hesitate to contact your building principals (kathi.holvey@monroe.k12.or.us and beau.sisneros@monroe.k12.or.us) or myself (bill.crowson@monroe.k12.or.us) if you have any questions or concerns regarding the COVID closure.
